Two Tips for First-Time Users of Residential Waste Removal Services

Here are two tips to follow if you'll be using a residential waste removal service for the first time.

Use strong rubbish bags

If you need to leave this rubbish outside your home for the rubbish truck driver to collect, and you don't have a spare bin in which to stow it whilst it's outside (or if there is a lot of rubbish and it won't fit in your bins), you should ensure that you pack it into strong rubbish bags. The reason for this is that if any of this rubbish has traces of food or drink debris on it (for example, if it includes food wrappers, a broken mini-fridge, some old kitchen cabinet shelves that were once used to store food, etc.) and you leave it outside for a few hours in thin rubbish bags, there's a good chance that local wildlife may rip open these flimsy bags, due to smelling the food scent on the items inside them. If this happens and your rubbish ends up laying loose all over your lawn or at the end of your driveway, the rubbish truck driver might need to have you assist them in gathering up this debris so they can take it away.

By putting these items into strong rubbish bags (and double-wrapping them if you can), not only will it be much harder for local animals or birds to detect any food scents on the rubbish inside but they'll also have a harder time breaking open these bags and causing the aforementioned mess if they do smell anything inside them. On a related note, if you need to have rubbish with sharp edges picked up and want to put this in the rubbish bags, it might be worth wrapping some thick tape around the corners so that these sharp edges don't cause the bags to tear.

Notify the waste removal company if you need them to collect more rubbish than you anticipated

If you realise, after having already booked the rubbish collection and having described to the waste removal company the approximate volume of rubbish you wanted to have collected, you have far more rubbish that you'd like them to take away, you should not simply add this to the original pile of rubbish and hope that the rubbish truck driver won't notice. Instead, you should call the company and tell them that you need to have them collect more rubbish.

If you don't do this, the rubbish truck driver might not have enough space in their vehicle's container for the extra rubbish and might have to leave it behind and instruct you to arrange a second rubbish collection. If however, you tell them in advance, they might be able to send a rubbish truck with a bigger storage container and pick up all of the rubbish during a single visit to your property.
